Thank you for visiting the Great Lakes Aquatic Society's official website. Obviously, you are someone interested in underwater creatures and this is just the site you need. Whether you are an experienced aquarist or are considering getting your feet wet you will find a plethora of information on aquariums, fish keeping systems, livestock and plant life.
As this site grows it is the intention to also use this as a venue for aquarists in the local and extended area to trade and sell equipment, livestock and plants. Also, we would like this to become a place to come to have your aquatic questions answered by experienced aquarists. So - all you experienced aquarists please submit your interest in becoming a moderator for a forum on the topic of your choice.
To provide the Great Lakes area - mainly the Northwest Ohio, Northeast Indiana, and Southeastern Michigan tri-state area - a venue where aquarists can exchange ideas, stories, experiences and maybe even some fish. We want to hear about what aquarists in this area are doing in keeping, breeding, selling and researching freshwater and marine creatures and habitats.
GLAS was started by hobby aquarist, Sharon Spyker, after searching the local area for an aquatic society or aquarist club of some kind. There are a good number of aquarium shops and pet stores in the area that have dedicated employees whom are knowledgeable aquarists, but not one of them knew of a local club for aquarists that was less than 200 miles away. Now the "club" is being brought to the local people and also to the world. Because even though the goal is to make it more convenient for Great Lakes aquarists to share ideas and get together we want to hear from everyone with experience keeping freshwater and marine aquariums.
